A painting of Yatkever (Yiddish) gas, also known as Jatkower (Polish) Street, in Vilna, Poland, by artist Jakob Szer (1895-1944). The old Jewish quarter of Vilna was known for its picturesque arched streets. This one, on Jatkower Street, meaning “Butcher Street,” was known for the large amount of Kosher and non-Kosher butchers operating side-by-side, was painted by Jakob Szer, a native of the city.
