Page from the diary of Herman Kruk

Vilna, Poland, Circa 1940. Diary of Herman Kruk

Page from the diary of Herman Kruk, the librarian of the Vilna ghetto library. Before the war, Kruk was a journalist and librarian. He was also active in the Bund, a secular Jewish socialist party. His diary chronicles life in the Vilna ghetto. It details the destruction of Jewish life. And it also records the perseverance of those, like Kruk, who fought to maintain the social and cultural life of Vilna.
