“I want to be an actress but it’s only a dream”

“How I See Myself A Year from Now,” an essay by Brayne Gelfer, a student in the sixth grade of the Sholem Aleichem School, in Vilna, Poland. What she really wants is to continue with her education in gymnasium and to become an actress. But as a daughter of a poor family, she is 90% certain that she is headed for an apprenticeship as a seamstress or some other trade.
