Dr. Ow it Hurts, by Kornei Chukovsky
The adventures of a doctor, who can speak to animals, and his friends. In this excerpt, the doctor and his animal friends help a young boy find his father. The main character was inspired by Dr. Tsemakh Shabad, a well-known doctor in Vilna whose patients included Beba Epstein. Also, his wife, Stefania Szabad, was Beba’s teacher at the Sofia Gurevitch school.
