Children from the Talmud Torah

Brześć-nad-Bugiem, Poland, 1921. School Children

Children from the Talmud Torah, the community-run kheyder (traditional elementary school), posing for a photograph in Brześć-nad-Bugiem (Brisk in Yiddish), Poland. This photograph is from an album created to present to a club of Jews in the United States. The club, known as Brisker in Yiddish, was called a landsmanshaft. Landsmanshafts often sent money back to their hometowns to help support communal institutions.
