Health posting discouraging spitting

Don’t Spit on the Floor

Berlin, Germany, 1923. Health poster encouraging better hygiene

Poster on the importance of using preventive medicine and a healthy lifestyle to avoid and curb the spread of tuberculosis. “You Can Protect Yourself from Tuberculosis (Consumption)! To Heal the Sick is a Great Deed; To Prevent Illness is Greater Still.” This is one of a series of Yiddish posters printed by the Jewish health organization OZE in Berlin for distribution to Jewish communities in Eastern Europe. Helpful information is delivered in the form of a comic strip and emphasizes preventing the spread of disease through good hygiene (“spit in a receptacle”) and strengthening one’s own immune system with good diet and exposure to fresh air.
