Report on the Liquidation of the Ghetto in Gorlice

Poland, 1942. Typed testimony

This is a testimony given by an informant about the liquidation of the ghetto in Gorlice, Poland. It describes the liquidation of the ghetto and the accompanying atrocities and killings of the Jews by the Nazi SS and Ukrainian units. It mentions attempts by the Jews to run away from the ghetto and hide in the countryside. It accounts for a demand of a contribution of 250,000 zlotys (presumably to hide the Jews) followed by an all-out hunt for those on the run, with mass killings of those who were apprehended. The final deportation of most of the Jewish inhabitants of Gorlice took place on August 18th, 1942. The remaining 400 men and 200 women were left behind to do the cleanup.
