Teacher Stefania Szabad with a class in a Yiddish school in Vilna, likely the Sofia Gurevitch School. The children hold a banner that reads, “We can all read and write.” They also wear hats with letters of the Yiddish alphabet. Szabad was an educator and the wife of the celebrated Vilna doctor and activist Tsemah Szabad.
