Flier in Yiddish asking for support for a religious school

Fundraising appeal for the Yavne School

Vilna, Poland, 1929. Appeal for Donations

A fundraising appeal made on behalf of the Yavne network of religious schools in Vilna. Those who ask for special prayers for the sick or who ascend the readers’ platform in synagogue for the Torah reading are asked to donate money on behalf of the schools. Most Yavne students were from poor families or were orphans. Money from the community meant to support the schools had been taken back. So the schools were in a tough financial situation. The appeal said: “Everyone should take part, with their donations, in the sacred matter of educating children, which is the foundation of the Jewish people and the existence of Torah.”
